The Fantastic Fox jumps over the Lazy Dog
Posted in: Random
I LOVE the nostalgia and craftsmanship in the new Wes Anderson stop-motion film, Fabulous Mr. Fox.
For one, stop-motion is just ridiculous. To think they create full length movies out of thousands and thousands of individual images is nuts! It took 24 individual shots to create thirty seconds of film - and a full day to get 30 seconds worth. All the sets, creatures, costumes and props were made by hand and a lot of the sound was recorded on location... in attics, forests, stables, and even underground.
It also looks really entertaining and fun. Here are a few fast facts for ya:
Tagline: His life is fantastic. His wife is fantastic. His neighbours NOT so fantastic.
Plot: Angry farmers, tired of sharing their chickens with a sly fox, look to get rid of their opponent and his family.
Voice Talents: The film features the voices of George Clooney, Meryl Streep, Jason Schwartzman, Bill Murray, Willem Dafoe, and Owen Wilson (just to name a few).
I think one of the reasons (besides being so tactile) I like stop-motion so much is that it's an easy way to relate to the design process. Both are born out of inspiration, obsession, commitment and diligence. In the end, both are about a creative individual (or individuals) taking all components and translating it into something really great.
So, come this Thanksgiving, you'll be able to enjoy the Fabulous Mr. Fox. But until then, you can click here to check out the trailer.
